A wonderful mountain location requires an equally beautiful home. Chalet floor plans started their popularity in the northeast but found their way to all of the mountain areas of the Appalachians to the Rocky Mountains.

Chalet floor plans can feature rustic and decorative trusses, large porches, and lots of natural wood charm. Many floor plans feature large stone fireplaces and a wall of trapezoid windows and large glass doors. Common elements of Chalet floor plans include balustrades, balconies, timbers, wood covered vaulted ceilings, and brackets.

Chalets originated in the Alps and have borrowed much of their design influences from contemporary Swiss architecture. Exterior finishes can include log siding, vertical board-and-batten siding, horizontal clapboard, and be enhanced with a number of faux elements to enhance the appeal.

Chalet floor plans invoke thoughts of cozy gatherings of family and friends in front of the fireplace while sipping on cups of hot chocolate. All of this while overlooking the rugged mountain-side setting or the nearby ski slopes. Chalets can make a great alternative to a traditional cabin and can make the perfect vacation home or be used for all year living.
