Modern Modular: Changing the Old Habits of Construction

Habits are powerful. Much more powerful than most realize. It’s just human nature to do what we are used to, what we have done in the past, instead of making a better choice. In the study of breaking bad habits, detrimental behaviors can be modified by focusing on changing patterns and forming new neural pathways. Home buyers and builders alike have been stuck in the habit of building homes the way they have always done it for almost 200 years. How do you break out of the cycle of building the old way?

Bad Habits

Habits are comprised of three distinct stages:

  1. Cue
  2. Routine
  3. Reward

When you want to build a home, most start with research on the Internet. Google has become our best friend when it comes to finding things. It’s easy to type in custom home builders and get a list of builders to build a home. Google will serve up a list of builders and off you go… down the same old way of building a home. And you are on the path to now get a home built the old way. The bad habit of just taking what is most easily available continues.

Now is the time to break that old habit. Don’t just accept that list from Google. Search for modern methods of construction. Learn about building systems and better ways to build. Research energy efficient homes, healthier homes, and home designs. Break the habit of talking with a builder and accepting as fact that your home has to be built outdoors in the elements. Break the habit of accepting that your home has to take 6-9 months to build. Break the habit of accepting the inefficiency of building a home outdoors and the waste and lower construction quality that comes with it.

You Have Choices when Building a Home

Research terms in building such and Zero Energy Ready. You can learn from the Zero Energy Project website and the Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready program. These sites will help you understand that have cost effective choices that will help you conserve energy and save money.

Learn about heating and cooling systems. Research terms such as ERV and HRV. Learn about home ventilation and how important it is to you and your families’ health to have quality fresh air move into your home in a controlled manner.

HYBRID CONSTRUCTION: GET THE BEST OF TWO BUILDING SYSTEMS

Learn about moisture control and building science. Even the lower quality homes today are typically built much better than homes of 20 and 30 years ago. Moisture that gets trapped in a home can lead to mold and mildew. Do your research and learn about how to avoid these issues.

Selecting a home plan can be fun. Don’t just assume you have to use traditional construction methods because you chose a design that is complicated and a builder tells you that you can only build something like this onsite. Check out the Modular Home Collection at ArchitecturalDesigns.com.

Modular Construction: The Vehicle to Break Bad Habits

Many states today don’t require builders and contractors to be licensed or take continuing education. While improvements in traditional construction have come slowly, modern methods of construction have been taking off. Construction won’t continue to be done the way it has always been done.

Building in a factory means that factories have been certified to build homes that conform to current building code. Many rural home buyers live in areas without home inspections. No third party is verifying a home is built to current building code. Modern modular construction solves that.

Today’s modular construction creates beautiful homes in practically any design. Building indoors means that those homes are built with the benefit of not being rained on. The quality behind the walls is just as important as the quality in the finishes. With modular construction, you get both. Healthier homes mean your family breathes easier and lives better.

Form a new habit when it comes to your new home. The habit of not accepting something the way it has always been done. Discover the possibilities with modular construction.
